Hiring Nocturnist Physician for the Northern Navajo Medical Center in Shiprock, New Mexico
DAX Healthcare Solutions is seeking an experienced, board-certified Internal Medicine or Family Medicine physician for a federal healthcare opportunity supporting the Indian Health Service at Northern Navajo Medical Center in Shiprock, New Mexico. This is a nocturnal hospitalist assignment providing overnight adult inpatient and critical care coverage.

- Location: Northern Navajo Medical Center, Shiprock, NM 87420
- Salary: $185-$190/hr plus travel and lodging
- Dates coverage is needed: As soon as onboarding is complete – 1 year (with 1 additional option year)
- Schedule/Shifts: Night shift, 7:30 PM–7:30 AM. Typical rotation is 7 nights on / 7 nights off, or 4–5 contiguous shifts arranged to total 14 shifts per 28 days.

- % inpatient / % outpatient: 100% inpatient / 0% routine outpatient
- Patient Volume: Not specified; NNMC has 55 inpatient beds, including a 5-bed ICU.
- Patient Ages: Adult IHS patients
- Types of Cases: Overnight General Medicine admissions and cross-coverage, ICU/critical care, ER observation/boarding, transfers, discharges, and inpatient consultations.
- Support Staff: Collaborates with Internal Medicine, Family Medicine, Emergency Department, Surgery, OBGYN, nursing, and other hospital services.
- Procedures Required: Ventilator management required. Central line placement and paracentesis are strongly encouraged; lumbar puncture, thoracentesis, and joint aspiration are preferred bedside skills.
- Type of Charting: EMR – RPMS
- Requirements: Any State License, BLS, ACLS, DEA, minimum 3 yrs exp.
- Credentialing Timeframe: 8-10 weeks on average
Key Responsibilities
- Provide overnight inpatient hospitalist care for adult General Medicine patients.
- Admit and observe patients from the Emergency Department and coordinate transfers from outside emergency departments and urgent care settings.
- Cross-cover adult inpatients on the ICU, Med/Surg, and other designated wards and provide overnight ER observation/boarding coverage when patients await higher-level transfer.
- Manage an open five-bed ICU, including patients requiring vasopressors or ventilator support.
- Provide inpatient consultations for other services, including Surgery and OBGYN, and coordinate referrals, transfers, and discharges.
- Complete timely, accurate EHR documentation and comply with IHS clinical, privacy, security, and quality standards.
