Hiring Anesthesiologists for the Salem VA Health Care System in Salem, Virginia

DAX Safety and Staffing Solutions, LLC is seeking Board Certified or Board Eligible Anesthesiologists to provide full-time, on-site physician services at the Salem VA Health Care System in Salem, Virginia.

This opportunity offers a consistent weekday schedule, a comprehensive hospital-based Anesthesiology practice, and the opportunity to provide high-quality care to our nation’s Veterans.

Position Overview:

  • Specialty: Anesthesiologist – Board Certified/Board Eligible
  • Location: Salem VA Health Care System Salem, Virgnia
  • Salary: $415/hr (includes t&l expenses)
  • Positions Available: Full-Time Physicians
  • Anticipated Start: September 21, 2026
  • Schedule / Shifts: Monday–Friday, 7:00 AM–3:30 PM Full-time, on-site coverage
  • Call Requirements: No after-hours call requirement is currently identified.
  • Practice Setting: Hospital-based VA Anesthesiology practice supporting surgical, procedural, critical-care, pain-management, and consultation services.
  • Charting: VA Electronic Health Record
  • Types of Cases: Physicians may provide anesthesia care for a broad surgical and procedural case mix, including:
    • Cardiac surgery
    • Orthopedic joint replacement
    • Major vascular procedures
    • Thoracic surgery
    • Neurosurgery
    • Plastic surgery
    • ENT
    • Urology
    • Ophthalmology
    • Electroconvulsive therapy
    • Cardiac catheterization procedures
    • Electrophysiology procedures
    • GI procedures
    • Radiology procedures
    • Surgical intensive-care patients
    • Acute and chronic pain-management patients
    • Diagnostic transesophageal echocardiography
    • Emergency airway management

Clinical Services

The Anesthesiologist will provide comprehensive anesthesia care within approved clinical privileges, including:

  • Preoperative assessment and anesthesia planning
  • Intraoperative anesthesia management
  • Postoperative anesthesia care
  • Anesthesia for surgical and procedural services
  • Emergency airway management
  • Appropriate acute and chronic pain-management services
  • Diagnostic TEE services within granted privileges
  • Inpatient and outpatient consultation
  • Patient education and discharge instructions
  • Accurate and timely electronic health-record documentation
  • Participation in required patient-safety and quality-improvement activities

Minimum Requirements

  • MD or DO
  • Completed Anesthesiology residency training
  • Board Certified or Board Eligible by the American Board of Anesthesiology
  • Current, full and unrestricted medical license in any U.S. State, Territory, Commonwealth, or the District of Columbia
  • Current American Heart Association BLS
  • Current American Heart Association ACLS
  • Current DEA certificate
  • Current NPI
  • U.S. citizenship
  • Demonstrated recent Anesthesiology experience
  • Ability to communicate effectively in spoken and written English
  • Eligibility for VA credentialing and clinical privileges
  • Ability to complete required VA training and onboarding requirements

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide safe, high-quality Anesthesiology care consistent with nationally recognized clinical standards.
  • Be available and present for assigned surgical and clinical coverage.
  • Evaluate and manage patients throughout the perioperative continuum.
  • Provide anesthesia support across applicable surgical and procedural areas.
  • Respond to emergency airway-management needs within the physician’s approved scope.
  • Maintain timely and complete VA medical documentation.
  • Participate in quality-improvement, patient-safety, peer-review, and medical-staff activities as required.
  • Maintain all required licenses, certifications, CME, DEA registration, and clinical privileges.
  • Follow applicable VA privacy, infection-control, safety, and professional-conduct requirements.

Assignment Details

This is a full-time federal healthcare staffing opportunity supporting the Department of Veterans Affairs. Initial assignment terms and extensions are subject to contract award, facility needs, physician performance, credentialing, and continued contract requirements.

Physicians must successfully complete the VA credentialing and privileging process before beginning clinical services.
